Nationwide was the friendly neighbourhood bank you didn’t mind hearing from. They went on to embrace a warm, down-to-earth vibe, mixing community spirit with smart, relatable campaigns that turned saving money from a boring task into something almost fun – like a team effort. And thanks to their “building society” heritage, they’ve created a vibe that’s equal parts nostalgic charm and independent spirit, setting them apart from the crowd.

Lloyds

There was a time when Lloyds felt like the most traditional player in the room – serious, buttoned-up and strictly business. But times have changed. With a refreshed brand and a major push into sleek, user-friendly digital banking, Lloyds has reinvented itself as a surprisingly modern and approachable presence. It’s gone from classic to contemporary, with their most recent rebrand featuring bright colours, bold typefaces and a suite of engaging illustrations.

Monzo

When you think of a cool bank, you think of Monzo. They didn’t just become cool, they practically invented cool banking, with their success likely forming a large part of the motivation for change for other banks. With their neon cards, budgeting tools that actually help and a social media strategy that makes them feel like a familiar friend – they’ve got it nailed.
