Meet the team: Lucie

Get to know the people behind #TeamLaunch — from favourite projects to time away from the screen, and everything in between. Talented, up for a laugh and super passionate about all things design…

Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Lucie and I’m the Founder and Creative Director of Launch Studio.

What are you currently working on?

A bit of everything… As CD I oversee all the projects going on in the studio and we’re very busy at the moment — 3 new website projects, 2 presentation decks, an editorial project and a social campaign… Amongst others! It’s very exciting seeing the team working together on such a variety of disciplines, and very rewarding seeing it all come together.

What’s been your favourite project of the last 6 months?

Hmm, a tricky one because there hasn’t been a project I haven’t enjoyed… From a team point of view I’d have to say Pltfrm Search — this was a branding and website design project, completed in partnership with another Digital Agency. We interpreted the clients needs very quickly and worked to extremely tight deadlines to turn each part of the project around. It was a true team effort from concept to handover and it was so rewarding to see all the pieces of the puzzle come together. We got great feedback from the client and the website won Best UX, Best UI and Best Innovation at the CSS Design Awards — fantastic recognition of a job well done.

Every aspect of the studio is a team effort and I think that’s an amazing culture to be a part of. #TeamLaunch forever.

Tea or coffee?

Not even a question — coffee!

What does good design mean to you?

Good design, at its most basic form, is problem-solving and I love that. I love taking something that isn't working and improving the users experience of it (as well as making it look great at the same time!). I love all the fundamentals, best practises and tiny details... It’s a cliche but the devil is in the detail. Creating something useful, intuitive and aesthetically pleasing, that’s good design.

What’s the last song you listened to?

Franzis — FIL BO RIVA

Who do you admire in the design industry and why?

Peter Saville — when I first started uni I was hugely inspired by his work and his approach to design and his use of space and layout design taught me a lot. Jessica Walsh, her fresh approach to design and the way she immerses herself in a brief creates such amazing results. Great to see a woman so well-respected in the industry! I also love Anthony Burrill… All of his work has a message behind it, and the language is so direct which I appreciate. Sometimes less really is more!

What would your job be if you weren't a designer?

Policewoman! If I hadn’t gone to uni and got infatuated with design I’d definitely have pursued that career...

What do you do to relax away from the screen?

*awkward silence* … As a self confessed workaholic, downtime is few and far between, but when I do get the chance I like to go to the gym, spend time with friends, binge Drive To Survive or take the dog for a nice country walk.

What are you most proud of since working at Launch?

Building such a talented team — it's so rewarding seeing everyone grow in skillset, confidence and design ability on an almost daily basis. We’re a very close team and are all super supportive of each other. Every aspect of the studio is a team effort and I think that’s an amazing culture to be a part of. #TeamLaunch forever.
