Meet the team: Giles

Get to know the people behind #TeamLaunch — from favourite projects to time away from the screen, and everything in between. Talented, up for a laugh and super passionate about all things design…

Who are you and what do you do?

Hi, I’m Giles and I’m the Mid-weight Designer here at Launch Studio.

What are you currently working on?

Currently, I’ve been kept on my toes bouncing around a few different projects, which is all part of the fun! A few notable projects have been a web design project for a company called Westbus, which focused heavily on improving their existing site. Another project would be working on some in house illustrative work, all to be brought to live with some exciting motion design.

What’s been your favourite project of the last 6 months?

PLTFM – Assisting in creating the brand and delivering it through to its application and website was super rewarding. I really enjoyed the process of creating logomarks, typekit considerations and colour palette creation.

Tea or coffee?

Coffee

What does good design mean to you?

Good design to me comes in two halves. The first, serving function and user experience whereby design is used to solve a problem and help a user achieve a goal. The second being aesthetics, however I try not to mix up good design with aesthetics too much, as this is always subjective.

What’s the last song you listened to?

Greasy Spoon – Sam fender

Who do you admire in the design industry and why?

Steven Heller - As a real history and design enthusiast, I've always enjoyed when the two topics come together. Personally I find it fascinating when Heller comments on design notions and ideologies of past and highlighting their relevance today. He makes me think in a more responsive way and ethical way.

I love the quote from Steven Heller – ‘The future is not really the future. It’s just a present that looks good.’.

What would your job be if you weren't a designer?

When I was younger I wanted to be a zoo keeper! Specifically working with tigers.

What do you do to relax away from the screen?

I head to the gym, eat good food and hang out with my dogs!

What are you most proud of since working at Launch?

The completion of my first branding project - Webol, and seeing it come to life.
