Meet the team: Emily

Get to know the people behind #TeamLaunch — from favourite projects to time away from the screen, and everything in between. Talented, up for a laugh and super passionate about all things design…

Who are you and what do you do?

Hi, I’m Emily and I’m the Senior Designer here at Launch Studio.

What are you currently working on?

Oo I’ve been working on lots of different things – that’s one of the joys of being part of a small agency. But most recently I’ve worked on a website design for Westbus – a London coach hire company, a branded pitch deck for natural male skincare company Baz & Co. and some printed collateral for an event Trade Nation are attending in South Africa.

What’s been your favourite project of the last 6 months?

Having not worked for Launch for very long, I can't say at the moment, but I'm really enjoying getting stuck in to such a variety of projects and brands, and I’m really looking forward for what's to come as the year goes on.

I have really enjoyed learning more about UI design, but also getting into the nitty gritty of building websites.

Tea or coffee?

Coffee — strictly decaf though, unfortunately!

What does good design mean to you?

I love the quote from Robin Matthew — 'Design is where science and art break even'. The concept that whilst something can look effortless and beautiful, it also has been carefully considered, with specific purpose. Good design doesn't always mean having to reinvent the wheel, it's about making something easy for the user/consumer (whether they realise it or not is the fun part!)

What’s the last song you listened to?

Spaceman — The Killers

Who do you admire in the design industry and why?

For me there is no specific person, but instead I take inspiration from what I see around me. I am one of those designers who has a box full of little treasures that I've picked up along the way, whether that be because of a font, colour palette, layout or format. If I had to choose, I really love the work that Leo Burnett does for McDonalds — a truly great example of how simplicity is key and that sticking to brand guidelines will hugely increase your brand awareness — it's so powerful they don't even have to use a logo.

What would your job be if you weren't a designer?

When I was younger I wanted to be a primary school teacher, so maybe that, or an Interior Designer, I love home styling!

What do you do to relax away from the screen?

I love tv dramas and watching films. I also try and get out for a walk most lunchtimes to give my eyes a break – fresh air really is the best medicine (sometimes I do *accidentally* fall into H&M instead though)

What are you most proud of since working at Launch?

Just successfully making it through my first few weeks? Joking. I'm looking forward to finding out! Ask me again soon :)
